What are your rights as a passenger in the event of a flight cancellation?

Although there should always be brochures with information about your rights as a passenger at the check-in counter and at the airport counters, it is worth knowing, in general, what your rights are if your flight is canceled or delayed by Nouvelair.

For this reason, we will detail, in summary, what are the passenger rights that are included in European Union Regulation 261/2004:

– Right to attention

If Nouvelair has not previously notified you of the flight cancellation or if the flight is delayed by 2 hours or more compared to the scheduled departure time, the airline must provide you with:

– Enough food and refreshments, depending on how long you have to wait.

– Accommodation in a hotel, if you need an unexpected overnight stay.

– Transport between the airport and the place of accommodation.

– Make 2 phone or fax calls or e-mails.

– Right to reimbursement of tickets or other means of transport

When it matches: If your flight is canceled or delayed by more than 5 hours from the scheduled departure time.

What it includes: In addition to the right to healthcare, Nouvelair must offer you one of the following options free of charge:

– Reimbursement of the total amount of the ticket within 7 days, if you can prove that your trip is no longer justified (for example, if you do not arrive on time for a meeting or an event, such as a marriage).

– Be transferred to your destination by the fastest possible alternative means of transport.

– Right to economic compensation: When it corresponds: If your flight is canceled and the carrier has not informed you at least 14 days before the scheduled departure date or if your flight arrives at its final destination with a delay of 3 hours or more.

In addition to the right to custody and alternative transport, Nouvelair must reward you with compensation of between 250 and 600 euros, depending on the case:

250 euros for short-haul flights (less than 1500 km)

400 euros for medium-haul flights (between 1,500 and 3,500 km)

600 euros for long-haul flights (over 3,500 km).
